Satan wants you to sin, but with Bible verses attached.
So taught guest teacher David Prince, pastor of Ashland Avenue Baptist Church, who Kingdom First was honored to have join them this week. Pastor Prince taught through the temptation narrative of Luke 4:1-13, and discussed first the significance of the “Son” in the passage. Contrasted were two sons of God: Adam, who was tempted by Satan in the Garden and failed, and Jesus who was tempted by Satan in the wilderness, defeating Satan and temptation for us.
Speaking of the genuine offer of Satan’s usurped kingdom to Jesus, Pastor Prince commented that “Satan is not afraid of morality, manners, or good government. Satan is afraid of the cross, and for Satan, a kingdom without a cross is fine.” Following that was a discussion of the nature of temptation and seen was the significance of the ways Satan would distort and interpret Scripture—and the way Satanic hermeneutics sounds a lot like ours, focusing on “you;” the now; and the “good,” however you define it. Ultimately, argued Pastor Prince, this passage is not about some battle strategy. When you read these verses you ought to think, “I have hope because Jesus defeated Satan and temptation for us.”
