Easter Reminders

Just as a reminder, tomorrow Kingdom First will not be meeting as the church has asked the classes throughout the church to serve on Easter Sunday in some capacity during their ABF hour to help with the always-high number of visitors we have.

On that note, we hope you all took the opportunity to sign up to help in some capacity tomorrow morning; if so, you should have received a letter from the church with instructions specific to your particular location and area of service. If not, we hope you still will arrive to church a little earlier than you might normally and be especially attentive and welcoming to new folks around. Easter Sunday is always such a unique opportunity in the life of our church, for a number of reasons—not the least of which being that we have so many visitors for whom this may be the only time they come to church the entire year. We hope you will take time even today to invite an unbelieving neighbor or friend or colleague whom you know, and tomorrow that we might all be kind and gracious, Christ-imaging men and women welcoming those visiting our church tomorrow.

Some of you might remember the famous Dr. Moore game-saving catch in 2009. Could it be you this year?

When: Friday May 7th at 7:00 pm

How much: $6 if 20 people or more and around $7-$10 if less than 20 (They wouldn’t give me a final price if we didn’t have a group).

This week at Kingdom First we had the privilege of having Q&A with Dr. Moore. Because of this we do not have audio for you to enjoy, but check back with us when we announce our next Bible Study series.

Please pray for Jerod’s sister as she and her husband prepare for a potentially difficult pregnancy.
Please pray for Mr. Vance who is grieving the loss of his brother.
Please pray for Phillip’s friend, Adam, who is going through a rough patch in life.
Please pray for a member of Highview who lost his brother and father.
Please pray for a missionary who is currently not on appointment.

Announcements

On March 21st & 28th, Kingdom First will be combining classes with Dr. Cutrer’s class. Dr. Cutrer will be spending two weeks teaching on the subject of marriage.
There will be no ABF on Easter.

Kingdom First members, from time to time we pass along prayer requests that come to us throughout the week and ask you to lift them up. This week, Kingdom First member Freddy Taul has asked us to pray for his fiance’s brother, Connor. Connor, who is 13 years old, was born with muscular dystrophy. In the last couple weeks, he has had to rely on a breathing machine as he sleeps and will soon be forced into a wheelchair. Please be in prayer for him, that God would give him strength as he moves throughout this painful and trying time, that God might guard his health and keep him safe, and also that God might comfort his family throughout this difficult situation.

We are so excited that this Sunday is the first week of a two-part series on Marriage. Be reminded that we will meet in the Choir Room during the 9:00 and 10:15 ABF hours. Dr. Cutrer and his wife will be speaking to us on Marriage Intimacy.

Dr. Cutrer is a recognized expert in reproductive technology and medical ethics. A licensed OB/GYN who specialized in the treatment of infertility for more than fifteen years, he also holds a graduate degree from Dallas Theological Seminary and is an ordained minister. Currently he serves as the Gheens Professor of Christian Ministry at Southern Seminary. Dr. Cutrer and his wife, Jane, have been married for thirty seven years and they have three children and six grandchildren. He is the author of numerous articles and books, including Sexual Intimacy in Marriage, as well as serving as the Medical Director of A Woman’s Choice, the Crisis Pregnancy center in downtown Louisville.

This past week in Kingdom First, guest teacher Justin Sampler taught through Zephaniah 3:1-8 on God’s judgment. Weaving through the themes of righteousness, obedience, and holiness, Justin’s lesson culminated on how the goodness of God’s justice is the goodness that assigns all disobedient sinners to perdition. While we are at times prone to see God as a genie in a bottle whose goodness can be determined by our liking, Justin emphasized that because of Christ—the one who is good—we as believers can find eternal life through him.

Our monthly class breakfast is scheduled for next week. Katy Ferguson passed around a sign-up sheet for people to bring breakfast items.
Highview’s LifeGroups begin this week. All interested persons should consult Highview.org to see the available list of classes.
Phillip let us know that Kingdom First will be teaming-up with Dr. Cutrer’s ABF on March 21^st and 28^th for a combined ABF.

For those of you who have been praying for Justin Sampler, we’re happy to report that his surgery went well and are thankful for all those who prayed for him.

We do have another request we would ask that you might keep in your prayer, Kingdom First members Hilton and Roberta Vance suffered a loss this week as Hilton’s brother passed away. Please be in prayer for their family as they move throughout the visitation and funeral this week and also in the weeks and months to come that God might comfort their family.

Kingdom First and Highview members, please pray for class member and occasional guest teacher Justin Sampler as he undergoes surgery very soon. If you have a moment now to give pause and offer up prayer for our brother in Christ, I would encourage you to do so. It looks like right now that Justin will be able to get in tomorrow for the procedure that will enable doctors to work on his sinuses. Please pray for a safe procedure, safe recovery, and the glory of Christ and his Kingdom.

Weekly Wrap Up- 2.28.10

This week in Kingdom First Dr. Moore continued in our series through Zephaniah, showing the way in which the text calls us to both repentance and judgment. After seeing the way the text shows how God hates pride—and indeed will be “awesome” against the prideful (v. 11)—we see the call away from self-exaltation. Judgment, we see, is coming. For Christians this has already happened on the cross, but carries on in the discipline and formation of the Christian life. The opposite, however, is true of those outside of Christ—who are being given over more and more in their lives to their sinful humanity and will instead be judged in the Last Day. Amidst all the shock and awe of judgment seen throughout this text, the message coming from the prophet Zephaniah is: “This could be you.” The call, therefore, is to be found in Christ, where the taunts, hissing, and judgment of Zephaniah 2:15 has already been suffered in the cross.

•Frank and Jane Cunningham asked us to pray for a woman whom they know in an adult home here in Louisville.

•Please pray for Wayne Tyler as he continues to recover from the injury to his hand.

•Jeremy Lloyd asked us to pray for his physical for the Air Force this week in Ohio.

•Susan Greenwell asked us to pray for a church plant in Ohio called Covenant Church.

•Cara Maddox asked us to pray for her parents as a couple from her home church, after returning from a trip overseas, asked her parents to adopt a child they saw there.

•Paul McKinney asked us to pray for some friends of his that are having trouble during the IMB appointment process.

•Amanda Akey asked us to pray for a woman whom she knows who just recently lost her baby.

•Matt and Courtney Stewart brought a word of praise after Courtney—who is 33 weeks pregnant—survived a fall this week with no harm to either her or her baby.
